1st Day of School

Elizabeth is finally starting her first day of Kindergarten today! Last night we picked out the outfit that she wanted to wear today and got it all ready for school today. We got all of her school supplies ready and placed them in her backpack (AGAIN, because she had gotten it all ready the day we bought the school supplies). She was so excited that she woke up early and was ready 45 minutes before the bus would even get here. I made her breakfast, (I know what your thinking and no that most likely will not be happening on a regular basis!) and we sat in the front room for a while. I gave Elizabeth a charm braclet for her first day with a hello kitty angel charm on it. I told her that this was going to be her gaurdian angel that would help her be safe. She seemed to really like that. As we sat in the front room I asked her if she had everything she needed and she said, "I don't know mom let me check...notebook...check...school poster....check, check...school supplies....check, check, check...Yep mom I have everything!" She then couldn't wait any longer and she went outside to wait for the bus! We waited and waited, because we were so early, and finally kids were starting to walk out to the bus stop, which is only a few houses down from ours. We walked down there and waited some more. I was the mom taking picture after picture of my sweet little girl waiting with the other children. Then the bus came and I started to get really nervous! She had no nerves and just jumped right in line and didn't even look back at me to get onto the bus. Another neighbor and I drove behind the bus just to make sure she could find her class when she got to school, and I'm so happy I did so because when the bus got to the school there was no one to show the new kindergarten kids where to go! So I took her to her class and made sure that she could find it. She ran straight into the classroom after the teacher opened the door and never looked back at me. That I think might have been when the tears started to come. I know I know I didn't think that this would be such a big deal! Abby and I came home and have been waiting for Elizabeth's bus to come. Abby has been waiting off and on outside to watch for the bus. The bus that takes the kids home from morning school forgot a class and had to turn around so they were about 30 mins. or so late dropping them off. Thankfully another mom drove by and told me and another mom waiting that the bus would be late.

After asking my 20 questions to Elizabeth about how school was, I got that they played and had recess and sang songs, oh and that you can bring snacks with you for recess time to eat. I don't know if any learning has happened just yet. Of course we are just on the first day...we'll see if her answers change as the year goes on!

When she came home she did ask when she will be going back to school and I told her tomorrow and she got excited and said, "Oh, I'll have to pick out another outfit!" Yes that's my girl!

Back To School Night

Last night was Elizabeth's back to school night at her new school. This was where she could go see the school, her new classroom, and meet her new teacher. Elizabeth has been so excited. All day long I heard, "Is it time yet...can we go now....does my school start today...." Elizabeth, Abigail and I went to check it out. Josh got there later. We saw the school and picked up her packet. Then we went to her classroom to see and meet her new teacher. Elizabeth of course hid behind me but she warmed up after a while. We did a scavenger hunt through her classroom finding all of the cool things her classroom had to offer. She really liked the cubbies! Elizabeth and Abigail played with the classroom toys while we waited for Josh to get there. Then when Josh got there Elizabeth showed him the classroom, including the cubbies! Elizabeth's new teacher just moved from California and Elizabeth thought that that was cool and had to tell her that she too moved from California. Then Abigail, who I think was just as excited about the new school as Elizabeth, had to show Josh the gym and "the place where the kids eat". All and all it was a good night. Elizabeth is now asking when can we go get the school supplies that are on her new list! I do love me some school supply shopping!

Conversations With My Sweet Girls...

My girls have said some funny things lately and I need to write them down before I forget…

Elizabeth: How do babies get out of the mommies tummies?
Abigail (with all of her confidence and assurance): Sister, they come out of the donut!!
-Side note: She thinks that the belly button is called the donut!

My mom is sitting by the pool with her bathing suit on and watching the kids swim. Early that day she gave the girls a candy sucker, Elizabeth got a blue one.
Abigail: Oh no nana sister spilt her candy on your legs!
My mom reassured her that the blue lines on her legs were just varicose veins. Abby is still thinking that her sister may have had something to do with them.

Me: Abigail your shoes are on the wrong feet.
Abigail: That ok mom

Me: Abigail you peed in your pants.
Abigail: That ok mom it will dry.

Me: Abigail you don’t match
Abigail: That ok mom I look good!

Me: Hey Elizabeth I’m tired can you drive for me.
Elizabeth: You have to get a drivers license to drive mom.
Me: How do you know that?
Elizabeth: Mom, I learned it on Hannah Montana.
Me: Well when can you get a drivers license?
Elizabeth: I think when you’re older like 10!

Nana: Will you come and visit me when I’m old and can’t get out of bed?
Abigail: My dad can carry my mom from the car to the house.
Nana: Can your dad carry me?
Abigail: (After a long pause and a few non-reassuring faces) I….don’t know!

This video is of Abby. After sunday dinner at my sister's house she came home and started doing this! I honestly don't know where this kid came from!! Oh and PS she picked out her outfit, she thought that the boots really added to the whole look!!!

Our Final Parade

So the summer season is coming to an end and we have attended our very last parade. Last weekend was Lindon Days and last Saturday morning we got up and put on our sunscreen, grabbed our chairs and headed out to see the floats, princesses, ...and well is there really anything else worth seeing? Oh and to run for all of the candy!! It was just Josh, Elizabeth, Abigail and I who attended. We were feeling our Lindon Pride by supporting our small town's parade. Now this wasn't the biggest or flashest of the parades during this parade season but I think I liked this one the most because it was our town. Yes I know I'm getting more sentimental in my old age but we have definitely had fun going to all of the parades and fun events that each town put on during there summer days. I am sad to see it end but look forward to going next year. So until then this is the last you will hear of our parade adventures.

Thirty Days Of Turning Thirty

This year I turned 30. I’ve been sort of excited to turn 30. I know that most women stop aging at 29 but I never have felt that way. I’ve never really wanted to make a big deal about my birthdays. I’m the type of person that is not completely comfortable with too much focus on me. I’ve never had the desire for a big party with lots of people, or an entire day focused on me. For some reason it’s ingrained in my mind that that is just plain selfish. However, turning 30 just seemed like a reason to celebrate or do something big. I thought and thought about what I wanted to do. I have heard about people making lists of the things they wanted to do before they turned 30. Such as jumping out of a plane, or…you know come to think of it most of the things included jumping out or off of something. Since I’m not of fan of the sensation of falling, I’m afraid of Splash Mountain at Disneyland, I couldn’t come up with anything that I wanted to do to usher in this big event in my life. As the time got closer to my birthday I would go back and forth with doing something or not doing something. I can really talk myself out of anything. To be expected I decided that all I wanted was a nice dinner at home with my family and not to have to clean up anything! That, as most mothers would agree would be the perfect day!

My wonderful big sister however knew better. The day of my birthday came and Cory handed me my gift. And the card read, “And thus the thirty days of 30 have begun! On the 1st day of 30, your sweet sister gave to you…A book…which the author autographed personally to you!” Each day after that there was a gift and a note…On the ___ day of 30, your sweet sister gave to you… Each gift was a little something that either I really like or that she really liked and wanted to share with me. Cory truly wanted to make my birthday special and she did it with flying colors. It’s not that I have gotten a gift each day for 30 days or that she spent an absence amount of money on me, its that she took time out of her busy life, and its pretty busy, to do something to make it known that I’m special to her. She would not let my 30th birthday just pass by without giving me the big event that I, like a child, secretly wished would happen. I love you Cory and am truly grateful that you are my sister. I know that we have not always seen eye to eye and that we may not of always understand each others “personal view points”, but I know that we love each other and will always be there for one another. Thank you Cory for my “Big Event” and helping me turn 30.
