This Is The Place

At the beginning of the summer the girls made their lists of activities that they wanted to do. Elizabeth's top choice was to go to This Is The Place Monument. She had just finished 4th grade Utah history and LOVED it and couldn't wait to see the place that she learned about. I had never been there so I thought it would be fun to go. The summer has gone by so fast and we hadn't gone yet so on this last week of summer break I packed the girls in the car and just us girls went. The girls LOVED it! We spent most of the day walking around and going through all the houses. This is a picture of the girls pointing to a Tippets that they found that came into the Valley on the same day that Brigham Young did!
Before we even got to the sign on this statue Elizabeth knew the names of the men in it! This impressed a couple of ladies that were standing by it. She did this ALL day pulling out all the facts that she knew and blowing away the people that were there!
This is the actual place that Historians believe Brigham Young said those famous words. And he wasn't standing up he was in the back of a wagon sick. But he pulled his head up and looked out at this point and said, "This is the Right Place..."
Elizabeth would stop and take notes throughout this whole day with any fact that she did not already know about....Honestly I don't know where this kids comes from....she was driving Abby crazy stopping and reading EVERYTHING then writing it down in her little book...it's a good thing Josh didn't go because I think it would drive him crazy as well....Me on the other hand LOVED it! For this picture Abby didn't want to be left out so she told me she would pretend to write down something!
The stilts were pretty unsuccessful they, never got up on them. Elizabeth after said that it was a lot harder then it looked! The girls made me take pictures of them in all the cars of the wooden train...these are only a few because really how many pictures does two girls need of themselves?
It was a LONG and VERY FUN day! The girls enjoyed every minute of it...and I did too!

  1. We actually went there when we were up last. It was fun. The Tippetts is John Harvey Tippets. He was a brother to one of Mark's great grandfathers. Elizabeth is a real history buff which is really a great quality. I love Abby's reality - let's look but keep moving. So funny how different they are in some ways.
